1. SHE WAS ORIGINALLY MADE OF CLAY.

Wonder Woman was made of clay by her mother, Queen Hippolyta, and then brought to life in her original appearance in the comics. After her birth the Amazons claimed she was “as beautiful as Aphrodite, wise as Athena, stronger than Hercules, and swifter than Mercury." In the post-New 52 era of the past few years, Wonder Woman became the daughter of Zeus, but as part of the ongoing Rebirth storyline there might be more to this story than we have imagined.

2. FOR A FEW YEARS, SHE AND SUPERMAN HAD A THING.

In the classic Wonder Woman mythos, her main squeeze is Steve Trevor, a pilot who crashes on the Amazonian island of Themyscira. In the New 52, Superman loves Wonder Woman. After sharing a kiss in Justice League #12 they officially become a couple in Superman/Wonder Woman #3. They've been called a "Power Couple” for understandable reasons.

3. HER CREATOR ALSO INVENTED AN EARLY LIE DETECTOR TEST.

The real life of the man who created Wonder Woman is also noteworthy. William Moulton Marston, who went by Charles Moulton, was a Harvard grad turned psychologist and lawyer turned inventor turned comic writer. He was also a noted polygamist and credits his wife (Elizabeth Hollaway) and the main woman they lived with (Olive Byrne) with influencing Wonder Woman as a character. All of this and he invented the polygraph test. Wonder Woman’s lie detecting lasso makes perfect sense!

4. SHE IS THE FIRST MAINSTREAM FEMALE SUPERHERO

When you think of female superheroes, you think of Wonder Woman! Wonder Woman is certainly the most iconic and with good reason. She predates all other female superheroes by years. The next big female superhero was Black Canary in 1947.

6. SHE WAS GOING TO ORIGINALLY BE CALLED SUPREMA

Suprema is a clever enough name, calling to mind Superman while sounding more feminine. The first ever Wonder Woman script entitled "Suprema, the Wonder Woman" was submitted in 1941. The Suprema name was quickly dropped in favor of the simpler name.

7. SHE WAS THE JUSTICE SOCIETY OF AMERICA’S SECRETARY

Way before the Justice League was formed, there was another super group at DC, the Justice Society of America! This team consisted of Hawkman, Starman, Atom, Doctor Fate, Doctor Midnite, Spectre, Johnny Thunder, Sandman, and their secretary, Wonder Woman. She was often forced to stay behind on dangerous missions. It was a testament to the time that this is what they had one of the strongest superheroes do. Now she is an iconic mainstream figure kicking butt! Much has changed.

8. SHE IS OVER 70 YEARS OLD

Wonder Woman was created back in 1941, making her over 70 years old! To put it in perspective, her first comic was released right around the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Think about that. The character of Wonder Woman has endured for seven decades. She's been an Icon for women and women's rights since before Marvel was even founded, she predates Spider-Man by more than 20 years!
